Lily

Our latest PPS addition is Lily, a tiny 10 month old Shih Tzu. Her owners decided they no longer wanted the responsibility of a dog and asked if we would take her. Whilst this is a very sad situation, we can only be grateful that they didn’t turn her out into the street like so many other animal owners here who come to the same decision.

At first sight, Lily appeared to be in rather bad condition, but we soon realized that apart from an unpleasant rash on her stomach, the only thing that appeared to be wrong with her was dirt encrusted, badly matted hair. A full vet check and distemper test revealed her to be healthy and in otherwise good condition. Lily has now also been fully vaccinated and wormed and once she has had a chance to settle in, she will be spayed.

Lily is an extremely sweet and gentle natured little girl and a good bath and haircut have done wonders for her self esteem!

If you are able to provide little Lily with a loving home, please contact us by email at info@peanutpetshelter.org

It´s so sad to see that many people get a dog and cannot take care of it.
I think it is very important to educate people more about what it means to own a dog and which responsibility comes with it. I have many neighbors whose dog(s) are just outside in the rain or in the sun all day. They don´t get walks or any other attention, affection or exercise.
I hope that someone of Peanut Pet Shelter reads this, because you guys could start some kind of initiative to educate people about dogs and what it means to own a dog so we can avoid that thousands of dogs get mistreated and have to get rescued from the streets.

Brita, you are so right, so much of our time is spent talking to owners about their dogs which are left all day tied up in full sun, with no shade or water to drink. So many owners too think seem to think that their dog only needs to be fed on those rare occasions when they think to throw them a scrap or two. Sadly for us as ‘foreigners’, trying to convince people is an uphill struggle. It just breaks our hearts to see how so many people here treat their pets.

Some time ago I wrote an article for the PPS website called ‘The Plight Of The Displaced Pet’…..I think it’s time to repeat it!
